The chest boasts a twin-plank primitive moulded top, with a simple carved frieze above four drawers. The drawer fronts are decorated with mitred geometric moulded panels, flanked by a pretty moulded and beaded frame; all of which is typical of this period. Each drawer front features a different geometric design. The drawers incorporate old replacement brass drop ring handles and the original brass key escutcheons. The top two drawers retain the original working iron lever locks; the bottom two original locks are faux / dummy locks. There is a key that works the top two locks. The drawers are oak lined and are primitively constructed with butt joints. The sides of the chest boast the original decorative inset panels, along with the original backboards. The chest terminates on an elegant moulded frieze and is raised on old Victorian replacement bun feet. The frame of the chest has been built using the traditional peg construction method.
The chests feature a dark rich brown oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received.
