Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English Victorian mahogany and leather captain’s office armchair, circa 1860, which has been newly upholstered and is in excellent condition. The chair has been newly upholstered in top quality full grain burgundy red leather. The chair features an elegant curved leather scroll back, finished with deep buttoning, secured to carved side supports and a carved vertical central back splat. The leather scroll back features lovely mahogany moulding caps above the shaped supports at the front of the chair. The buttoned stuff over seat is sprung and webbed to ensure that the seat is extremely comfortable to sit on. The underside of the seat has been finished with black cotton. The bow-fronted seat is finished with brass studwork to its perimeter. The chair stands on elegant tapering fluted legs to the front, with splayed legs to the rear, and terminates on its original brass and porcelain castors.

The chair displays a rich dark red-brown colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning they have received.

Condition Report:
The chair is in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges of the mahogany frame but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The chair has been newly upholstered in top quality full grain crimson red leather. Therefore, the leather is in excellent condition, with no signs of wear and tear, damage or holes etc. The chair frame incorporates the traditional brass studwork tacks to the sprung seat perimeter and black cotton to the underside. The chair frame features a rich red-brown mahogany colour, having been cleaned and polished in our workshops. The chair boasts solid brass and porcelain castors, which are also in good condition. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
