Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English Charles II 6ft 3” solid oak farmhouse kitchen refectory table, circa 1680, with exceptional build quality and in excellent condition. The table top comprises 4 solid oak planks. The table has been constructed in the traditional manner with mortise and tenon joints, and then pegged, with a straight frieze each side, decorated with corner spandrels and further shaping at either end. The table is raised on substantial turned gun barrel legs, on block feet, which are united by stretchers on each side and end. The top can be removed, if necessary, to gain access into the house. The table top features a lovely colour & grain configuration, having been polished in our workshops. The table will seat up to 8 people. It is sufficiently tall enough to fit your legs underneath and is sufficiently wide to accommodate serving dishes in the centre of the table. The table has been solidly constructed and is of excellent quality – it is extremely heavy!
The table boasts a rich oxblood brown oak colour. This table would look superb in a variety of rooms from the kitchen to the dining room. This item would certainly grace any home. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Condition Report:
This table is in excellent condition, with exceptional build quality. The table has been polished in our workshops. Nominal old use marks (cup marks, stains etc. – see photos) to the top and leading edges of the frame, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The carcass is solid with no breaks, damage or loose movements. The table top boasts a fantastic deep oxblood oak colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received. This table is extremely heavy, which is always a sign of good quality! This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
