Summary Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English Art Deco burr walnut three-piece bedroom suite, which includes a wardrobe, chest of drawers / compactum & bedside chests, made by Ray & Miles Cabinet Makers of Liverpool, circa 1930, in excellent original condition. The suite is constructed from fabulous mirror matched burr walnut veneers and featuring original walnut handles. This suite boasts classic Art Deco styling throughout; this is visible in the mirror-matched burr walnut veneers, shaped plinths, clean lines and the materials used.
Wardrobe Description:
The two-door wardrobe boasts lovely mirror matched walnut veneers, along with elegant curved corners and edges and original vertical walnut handles. Both doors feature the original working locks, with a working key. The doors open to reveal a single shelf compartment to the top, below which is a full-width hanging rack. To the rear of the interior are four hanging hooks. The wardrobe sits on a recessed moulded plinth. Because the wardrobe has a narrow width, it is ideal for compact rooms, as it consumes very little space. The wardrobe plinth and pediment can detach for easier access into the bedroom.
Chest of Drawers / Compactum Description:
Comprising of an elegant Art Deco double moulded frame, incorporating a rectangular shape with a reverse-bowed centre to the top section, this 2-door tallboy boasts an exterior of stunning mirror matched burr walnut veneers to the front and top, with figured walnut to the sides. The compactum features elegant curved corners and edges. The top section comprises a two-door cupboard; the left-hand door retains its original sliding bolt latches, while the right-hand door retains its original working lock, with a working key.Inside, the tallboy features a removable internal shelf. Further belowis a bank of three dovetailed drawers, all of which retain their original vertical walnut handles. The tallboy sits on its original recessed moulded plinth and retains the original backboards. The compactum can dismantle into two sections if necessary, in order for easier access into the bedroom.
Bedside Chests Description:
These bedsides feature a raised top, above a moulded edge. The frames boast lovely quality mirror matched burr walnut veneers, thus giving a luxurious finish. The bedsides incorporate 2 graduated drawers, which retain the original wooden vertical handles. The drawers are hand dovetailed and the linings are constructed from mahogany. The bedsides stand on the original and recessed moulded plinths. These bedsides boast classic art deco styling in the overall design of the curved corners, clean lines to the tops, the handles and the plinths.
This suite features a rich golden brown burr walnut colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This furniture set would look superb in the bedroom. It would certainly grace any home and is a great investment as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely set of furniture.

Provenance:
Ray and Miles were renowned cabinetmakers based in 34-38 London Road, Liverpool, England, who were first established in 1864. They built and retailed top quality furniture and upholstery during the later part of the Victorian and Edwardian period, along with early part of the 20th century. Their main customer base was the industrial powerhouse region of the North West of England but also sold furniture further afield. The company was later purchased by Maples of London in 1959 (which was an indication of how Ray & Miles were highly admired in the furniture industry), which itself fell into receivership in 1997.
