Description:
Here is a fine quality antique English George III oak occasional side table, circa 1820, displaying a lovely rich colour, in excellent condition. A table of this type would have been made for simple country dwelling. The table incorporates a twin-plank ovolo moulded edge, with a generous overhang, above a single working drawer. The drawer features old replacement brass drop handles on circular escutcheons, which were probably added during the Victorian period. The oak lined drawers are constructed with hand dovetail joints and the drawer is finished with an applied moulded front. The drawer runs smoothly and closes flush to the frame. The sides of the table are decorated with lunette carvings. The table is raised on four turned baluster legs, which are united by simple stretchers for additional strength. The table features the original top and backboard to the rear; the frame has been constructed in the traditional joined manner for that period. The item is solid in joint and ready to use.
This item features a lovely rich oak colour. As it boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic colour and patination; this can only be achieved through age and years of care and cleaning it has received.
This item would look superb in a variety of rooms from the living room to the hallway, or useful as a writing table. The table would certainly grace any home or office and is a great investment, as it is extremely functional. So don’t miss out on your chance to own a lovely piece of furniture.
Condition Report:
This table is in excellent condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, drawer front and top, but nothing significant considering the age of the item (see photos). The drawer is in good working order and closes flush to the frame. The drawer features old replacement brass handles and escutcheons (possibly replaced in the Victorian period). The table features the original top and backboard to the rear. There are no breaks to the frame or legs. The frame has been constructed in the traditional joined manner. As the table boasts the original polish, it has a fantastic mellow colour and patination. This table is well constructed, solid in joint and ready to use.
